Are You Struggling to Afford Housing?
House rent is most often the biggest cost you will have and it is important to keep up payments.
Check to see if you are eligible for extra help with your housing costs even if you already claim benefits.
Housing Benefit
If you rent your home from a landlord and are finding it difficult to manage on a low income, you may be able to get help with your rent. This support is called Housing Benefit.
Universal Credit
Universal Credit is a monthly payment to help with your living costs. You may be eligible if you have a low income, are unemployed, or are unable to work.
Discretionary Housing Payment
Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) can provide short-term help if you need extra support with your rent. To qualify, you must already be receiving Housing Benefit or the housing part of Universal Credit.
Council Tax
If you pay Council Tax and you are on a low income, you might be able to get help from New Forest District Council towards paying your Council Tax.
Household Support Fund
If you’re struggling, you may also be eligible for help from the Household Support Fund, a connect4communities programme, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions.

Shelter is a charity that helps thousands of households each year, through a free emergency helpline, online guides, access to free legal advice or housing support.

If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, or your current property is not suitable, NFDC can provide support to help to resolve the problem.
